Running Windows On The Mac

One thing I faced early on was installing Windows on my Mac. It is fairly straight forward process with the use of BootCamp. One of the requirements of BootCamp is an install of Windows XP with service pack II. Years ago a had purchased Windows XP for my home built PC, but service pack II was not part of it. So I needed to create a Windows Install CD with at least Service Pack II on it. I found some great instructions on how to Slipstream Windows XP Service Pack 3 to Create an Integrated XP Setup Disk with SP 3. Your gonna need that old PC or maybe a friends PC to do this.

If you already have a Windows Vista or Windows XP w/SP2 then your ready to go!
1. Under OSX launch Bootcamp Assistant (located in your utilities folder)
2. Create a partition for windows.
3. Install Windows

One thing: When setting up Windows during the install you need to make sure you format that partition as NTFS.
Once in Windows drop in your OSX install CD to install some drivers. Do your updates with apple and with Microsoft.

Booting between OSX and Windows is easy. Hold option key down during startup and select which to boot from.

  1. Have you tried using VMware or VirtualBox instead of Bootcamp? I'd hate to have to reboot everytime I wanted to rip a disc.
